The windows in which direct support can actually happen.
Pre-release · the HWF approach
Start with the week you intend. Test the demands behind it.
HWF is being developed to sit beside the planning method a family already uses. The intended job is to evaluate relationships that can make an organized-looking week unrealistic.
A different job: planning decides where the work goes. The HWF model asks whether the demands behind that plan can realistically coexist.
The decision flow
Move from the intended plan to the constraint that matters.
The reasoning should stay understandable without pretending every family has the same week. The HWF model is being designed around the inputs and interactions that can change the feasibility decision.
- 01
Intended week
Represent what the family expects the week to contain without turning HWF into the family’s planner.
- 02
Actual capacity and support
Use real parent availability, real child support needs, actual independence, and other constraints—not idealized assumptions.
- 03
Interactions
Look for the places where demands compete for the same limited resource, especially the same parent’s time and attention.
- 04
Interpretation
Distinguish a weekly capacity problem from a day-level coordination or placement problem so “the week is hard” becomes more specific.
- 05
Decision
Use the binding constraint to decide what deserves reconsideration instead of rebuilding everything by default.
What the HWF model is being built to examine
The useful inputs are the ones that change the feasibility decision.
How much parent involvement each child really requires.
What can genuinely happen without pulling the parent back in.
Where individually reasonable commitments collide when combined.
Illustrative measurement
A threshold is information, not an alarm.
The capacity line remains neutral. Coral appears only when interpreted demand crosses into evidence-backed pressure or breach.
The overflow is shown by position, label, and color—so color is never the only carrier of meaning.
What HWF is not
Keep the tools that already help you plan.
HWF is not being built to become the family’s curriculum manager, gradebook, attendance system, assignment tracker, or daily checklist.
Those can be useful jobs. They are simply not the decision HWF is being built to improve.
